Priorities

Creation of new living conditions

Housing construction has always been one of the priorities of Samara`s Administration. Samara Oblast annually allots budgetry funds to construct about 100,000 square meters of accomodation. But it constitutes only 1/3 of project construction, 2/3 is taken up by private construction. We are to provide accomodations for those who have no financial resources to purchase or build a house or an apartment, i.e. the veterans and disabled soldiers, invalids and participants of Chernobyl after-effects liquidation, budget workers, forced migrants, orphans. This could be done with the help of new construction materials and designs meeting the requirement of international standards.

But housing is only a part of the problem. It should correspond to new standards of living. The number of telephones per 100 people amounted to 10 in the region in 1996, at present this figure equals to 17. By 20005 this figure will reach 23-25 per 1000 people. Both city-dwellers and the population of remote areas should have several state and local TV and radio channels.

300 kilometers of asphalt concrete roads are annually built in the region. All important farm-centres are connected by solid coating roads. However, we are to reconstruct earth roads in 359 places, to build the railway station in Tolyatti, to fininsh the construction of the railway station in Samara, which is the largest in Russia. Since 1996 we have not raised fares in local trains and our objective is to keep the public transport accessible for every citizen of the region.
